Why? 'Cause everyone's a critic

I was having a conversation with a friend of mine yesterday about the health insurance reform legislation vote tomorrow in the House of Representatives and he was concerned there would be violence if it passes. I said that I thought a lot of it was just the barking madness of a few ignorant people. After today’s random acts of violence and protests, I may have to admit that I was a bit shortsighted. This sign doesn’t ease those concerns at all.

From Think Progress:

Tea Party activists have gathered on Capitol Hill today for a “Code Red” rally against health care reform. Speakers at the event included Republican Reps. Steve King (IA), Michele Bachmann (MN), and Mike Pence (IN). The gathering was organized by Tea Party Profiteer organizations like FreedomWorks and Americans for Prosperity. ThinkProgress attended today’s rally and spotted a sign threatening violence if health care passes. The sign reads: “Warning: If Brown can’t stop it, a Browning can,” referring to Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) and a Browning firearm:

There seems to be some confusion in all the rants you’ve been giving since your dad left public office. Please allow me to explain things in a way in which I hope you will understand.

This man:

is not this man:

We have been assuming that you would have figured this out by now. I mean it’s been almost 10 years, but sadly, with all your pronouncements in TV that terrorists are some sort of super criminal that normal courts and jails were unable to contain, I thought some clarification was in order.

Your welcome,

Prominent conservative voices don’t mind [Glenn] Beck’s deranged conspiracy theories, his humiliating ignorance, and his hatred for those who don’t think as he does. But these conservative voices mind a great deal if Beck notes that Republicans have an embarrassing record when it comes to deficit reduction, the national debt, government spending, and increasing the size and scope of the federal government’s powers — an observation that happens to be true. What an odd movement.”

Joseph Stack’s ‘philosophy,’ to the extent he had one, was closer to the left-wing drivel at Daily Kos and moveon.org than it is to the patriots who are in the Tea Party movement. Joseph Stack printed his manifesto on his business web page yesterday as he took off to try to kill IRS employees. In it he rails at the wealthy, GM executives, drug companies and insurance companies. His rhetoric sounded like Obama style populism – heavy on class warfare … No, Joe Stack wasn’t any conservative – he was a left-wing populist!
